Default Direct stream editing videoclips of various formats

I'm looking for FREE sw to cut videoclips without any format conversion nor
resampling in order not to change quality of the source file and not to have
to wait some hours. I found VirtualDub is good for .avi files and Avidemux
for .mpg, now I'd like to find sw at least for .wmv and .rm but I can't find
any free sw, some people say the only way is first to convert to .avi but I
tried many converting programs and saw they all resample the file in a very
time consuming way and the output file grows many times in dimension - this
is undesirable since quality cannot be better.
Someone can help?
