Default HP Photosmart 7550

Computers running Windows XP Pro SP3, fully updated
Since last Microsoft update, the printer will pull the paper in, the print
carriage scans and then ejects the paper and the print queue is cleared.
Printer properly prints tests from printer console and from HP toolbox, in
the printer properties. Changing the driver to HP 990c, a generic driver
causes the printer to print, but it looses the Photo functions. In fact,
changing the driver to an HP 7310 all-in-one causes printer to print - just
will not print with it's own driver.
Have removed driver, re-started computer; downloaded driver from HP and
re-installed - no difference.
Suggestions?

What changed with last XP update?
TIA
Eric
