Default Repair Install ?

I recently used nLite to create an XPpro (32bit) cd that contains all of
the current updates including IE8.

I tested it by performing a fresh install on a spare drive and all went
perfectly.

I figured that in the case of a future emergency I might as well test
the CD Now to be sure I could perform a repair install with it.

I booted up with the CD and when the installer got to the point where it
queried for previous Windows installations...
It just ignored the installation and only gave me the option to install
a new version.

To be clear: The cd I used to attempt the repair install, was the very
CD I used to install Windows in the first place.

Anyone know what's going on here?
