I (just) started playing one of the solitaire games the other day.
Lots of advertising pushing online gambling. Having explicitly chosen a
non-gambling lifestyle, I removed the app today. What's an operating
system seller colluding with the likes of
online gambling for...geeze? Yes, I know I could have paid to have
the ads removed, but it still seems wrong. End of rant. IMO, Shame on
MS; they lost a few "morality points" here, as far as I'm concerned, and
to my mind, this calls into question the morality or ethics built into
their other software. They don't give a damn about their users? ("harmless
fun"-ha!)

In addition to the Windows games i also have XM Solitaire, a suite of over
200 games.

You can find XM solitaire here, at Sourceforge:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/xmsol/ it does run on Win-10, in
spite of the slightly misleading wording in the previous sentence.

MajorGeeks also has a download for it if for some reason Sourceforge
bugs you: https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/det...solitaire.html .
That site suggests that it runs under WinXP to Win-ten.

And here is the website for some alternatives to it:
https://alternativeto.net/software/xm-solitaire/

Open source & the author has answered questions.

The Author being reachable at his home page (English version) at:
http://petr.lastovicka.sweb.cz/indexEN.html where other nice stuff
can also be found.

There is more nice stuff on his Chzek language page.

It happens. Actualy *lots* of things happen, some of them good.

Nice write up & amendment. Thanks.

It's cool. Someone was going to add the little linkies, this time it
was me but it could have just as easily been you. [shrug]. If the
Multiverse Theory were correct [which it ain't] in some other places
it *was* you. Lots of times.

We all have a role, mine is so minuscule even the flapping of a
butterfly's antenna swamps it.

Thanks for mentioning XM-Sol. I've downloaded a copy for the wife.

The XM Klondike solitaire works well but it's lacking in 2 features that
I'd miss from the old Windows XP solitai It doesn't tell you when
you've lost, and it doesn't offer a celebratory cascading of cards when
you win.

This works and I have it installed on several Win10 systems.

Thanks very much for that link. The download, by the way, is a little
over 150mb. In case anybody is concerned about whether or not it's safe,
here's the Virustotal scan link:

The executable should only differ by a few bytes,
from the original file on a Windows 7 machine.

There was a procedure, for editing some sort of
metadata inside the executable, which "gives permission"
for it to run on a different version of OS. But the people
doing the editing, did not explain what they were editing.

Making a 150MB "project" out of it like this, was intended
to make it easier for people to use. There is always a danger
though, of "hiding" something in it, so it's always a good
idea to be scanning it. You never know what the web site
security is like, on the average site like this, and that's
why you'd still scan it, even if others had already
scanned it.

If the executable had been "signed" on the original OS,
then doing edits like this would not have worked, because
the loader would complain about the busted signing as
soon as any critical part of the executable is changed.
It's really kind of surprising, that this works.

Go he

http://www.acid-play.com/

or he

https://www.myabandonware.com/

for lots of free games. Some of them might be 16 bit, but most should be
32. There might even be some 64.
