Default Bill Gates should be dragged and hung

Amanda, the only other thread I find from you was on 8-2-03.

This is it and my response to it at that time;

You need a 3rd party CD burning program, they come with drag & drop =
(packet writing) capabilities. I use RecordNow from www.stompinc.com =
there are others Nero, Roxio, CD Maker, etc.

The XP burning program is limited. =20

| Hi,
| When I save files to a CDRW and then reopoen them on the=20
| CD, they are "Read Only" and I can't save them back onto=20
| the CD, and have to save them in "My Documents". I've=20
| tried going into File and Folder Properties and changing=20
| the Attributes to remove the Read Only status, but the=20
| change isn't permanent, and when I re-open the file, it's=20
| Read Only again. Sometimes I get "Access Denied-Contact=20
| the Administrator" (that's me!) and then a prompt that=20
| says I can "Ignore" this problem, the icons show the=20
| removal of the "Read Only" but again, the file/folder=20
| remains "Read Only when re-opened. Please help!

This is from XP help and support;

Erase files from a CD

1. In My Computer, click the CD recording drive. Windows displays the =
files and folders located on the CD.=20

2. Under CD burning tasks, click Erase files on CD-RW. Windows =
displays the Erasing CD-RW dialog box and progress bar showing the =
process as it occurs.=20

When the process is finished, Windows displays a message in the =
notification area.

Note

a.. Not all CDs are erasable. If the CD you are using is not erasable, =
for example, CD-R, then this feature is not available.=20

| Hi Andy,
| Thanks very much for responding. I have upgraded both=20
| computers to XP, but did it in step fashion so as not to=20
| have too much downtime. The overall experience is not=20
| bad. But the CD Burning/"Read Only" issue has turned it=20
| into a nightmare. My files are at a minimum of 15MB and=20
| so I have to have secure storage. This CD BUrning issue=20
| is ridiculous. Like MS added an ugly garage to a well=20
| designed house.

| Amanda,
|
| I will not be so rude as some others in commenting on=20
| the tone of your post.
| I agree that if you didn't get a response 4 days ago,=20
| you should be
| frustrated. Just keep in mind that posts like this are=20
| bound to get some
| less-than-positive responses. Nevertheless, you sure=20
| did get everyone's
| attention...
|
| I don't know the extent of the circumstances leading you=20
| to moving to
| Windows XP. But if the reliability of your computers is=20
| so crucial that you
| have lost 2 weeks of income during this ordeal, somebody=20
| missed a step. You
| have to realize that with a major change in operating=20
| system, especially
| when moving to a relatively young operating system, you=20
| should expect some
| bumps in the road. You said, "...my business relies on=20
| being able to keep
| my computers running properly." Since this implies that=20
| you have more than
| one computer, why upgrade the OS's all at the same=20
| time? Or if they're new
| machines, why not just go back to the old ones until you=20
| are comfortable
| with XP?
|
| The bottom line is that when you're loosing money, you=20
| have to get it fixed.
| These are great newsgroups, and there is a tremendous=20
| amount of knowledge to
| gained here. But this is free advice. When an MVP=20
| lends their expertise,
| they are doing it for the love of their profession and=20
| the gratification
| they enjoy in doing so. They are not here for a=20
| paycheck.

| What is it with XP and the way it saves all files and
| folders as "Read Only"???? I can't save them to the=20
| same
| folder, and I can't change the attributes in the
| Properties dialog window either. The file just
| immediately reverts back to "Read Only".
| The CD-Burning operation doesn't work either. It's a
| train wreck.
|
| This is causing my production to go down to a snail's
| pace. I hate Bill Gates and I wish the Justice Dept.=20
| had
| taken him down with the Anti-Trust Suit!!!!!!!!!!!!!
| What's wrong Bill, $60 Billion ain't enough???

Hi Will,
Wow!!!!!!! Thanks so much. Good to see a clear head in

I've printed it out and it confirms my worst nightmares

exception)

Can I nit-pick a little here?

Amanda, your first message on this thread did not mention that the
"read-only" problem was with files burned onto a CD.\

When I first read that message I assumed that your problem was with
files on the hard drive.

I wonder how many others spent time searching for possible causes of
this type of problem with a hard drive before reading the rest of the
thread and discovering that it was a CD burning related problem.

Ron, the first post to the group from Amanda was on 8-2-03 @ 9:04 AM, =
with a header of Folder/File Attributes - Can't undo "Read Only", I =
wrote at that time 11:44 AM that she needed a 3rd party burning program. =
That was the only response to her (original) post. =20

Just took a look at the header, CDO for Windows 2000, so she probably =
wont see my cut & paste of my response to her original post either.

Absolutely agree with Amanda here. Bang on.

Karl, I took my frustration out on Uncle Bill, a guy that
can buy and sell the planet not to mention you and me.
And frustration quite justified or else this
troubleshooting board wouldn't even EXIST, now would it?
They are making tons of $$$ off of our willingness to
trouble-shoot THEIR experiments. Does that bother you?
And does it also bother you that MS as well as Dell and
other computer/software developers have moved their
operations overseas to China and India because they don't
want to pay Americans for the same work; not to mention
the same dollars that put them on their gilded thrones in
the first place?!?!? You bet I"m frustrated. And
everyone else should be too.

She started a whole new thread with this subject, and I do not bother
to look for previous posts that might possibly be related. Just don't
have enough time.

Just took a look at the header, CDO for Windows 2000, so she probably wont see my cut & paste of my response to her original post either.

She responded to a number of the other replies so she obviously knows
how to handle the CDO interface.
