By the way, when I had a system crash on my other bitlockered system

perhaps Msoft should be notified.

You may not know this but it is possible to rebuild a knackered machine
from scratch including all your Apps as they were before. This is done
by reformatting the HD, Installing the OS then import all the registry
keys. Then copy the Apps from the old HD on to new HD and voila you
have your machine running as before.

This assumes that you have created the backups of registry keys and the
folders: C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (x86)

You need them to copy on to your new HD for this technique to work.

Thankfully my 1709 has just arrived, and I installed it without

Sadly I will still have to adjust the font sizes.

Which font sizes? Maybe, this site will be useful for you:

Nice find, although the win10 defaults seem to work well enough
here. The main lack on the creator update system is for similar
controls on the web fonts in the Edge browser. Pity as MSFT is
focusing on Edge as the emerging default browser on the system.

Same here. You are not alone. Two machines with nothing unusual
about them. No hint of 1709.

If you are really desperate for 1709 then do it manually by downloading
the full ISO and then mounting it to run setup.exe \auto \upgrade.

It works very well indeed.

Just make sure you have backed up your data just in case you press the
wrong buttons!!!!!!! You sound like somebody who is not technical
minded and you are using the computer because your next door neighbour
has one!!!!

Wow. You sure jump to a lot of bad conclusions. I am not deperate
for 1709. I just commented that I haven't received it yet. I
manually installed previous versions but thought I would wait this one
out to see how long it would take. Regarding not being technically
minded, I am an electrical/computer engineer with 4 decades of
experience. Other than that, you were right on.

Just arriving alone is not enough. You need to make sure that it is
16299.64.

Yes, it is that one.

Sadly I will still have to adjust the font sizes.

Buy a magnifying glass or learn to use Windows tool.
