XP Home: Admin-Password
What do you do when asked for admin-password when you have never created
one??? I want to do a repair install after a virus attack. If you're wondering, yes the virus was caught and removed using symantec removal tool, but apparently some damage was done because odd things began to happen...e.g., not being able to do a simple file search, some programs not working properly. BTW, it was the yaha virus. TIA. Curt. |

Curt;
You do not need password for a Clean Installation. You are pressing R when you should not. Follow this for a Repair Installation: http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_repair_install.htm -- Jupiter Jones [MVP] An easier way to read newsgroup messages: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p...oups/setup.asp Please respond to newsgroup only for everyone's benefit. wrote in message ... Curt;
I had one mistake in my post: "You do not need password for a Clean Installation" should be "You do not need password for a Repair Installation" -- Jupiter Jones [MVP] An easier way to read newsgroup messages: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p...oups/setup.asp Please respond to newsgroup only for everyone's benefit. Jupiter....it's all good. It turns out that your mistake was not a problem.
I followed the instructions from the link you posted, and the install was a snap. I'm still a bit confused though, why would anyone be asked for a password when none was created??? Or, is it just a quirk of the OS as to when the 'R' is pressed in the process....the OS just assumes that a password has been created? Like I said, confusing. Thanks again, Curt.
