What useful functionality is in the newer Microsoft Office that isn't already in the older MSOffice 2007 Pro which I just installed?

In response to what Daniel wrote :
Usenet is a public archive of useful polite technical discussions. Is this a joke? We learn a lot on Usenet, e.g., a similar thread a few years ago struggled to find even ten useful functionalities in Windows 10 that weren't already in Windows XP or Windows 7 (usually gained with added software). As I recall, together, we could find, at most, fewer than a half dozen truly useful functionalities that we used which were in Windows 10 that we couldn't do at all in the older Windows versions. *Will Microsoft Office turn out to have similar or different results?* o I don't know as I haven't used (or needed) the newer Office versions yet. It is useless to me since it is made for people that sit in an office with a fast internet connection. Often I do not have access to internet or when I do its a 3 kb/sec connection. However, 2019 / 365 does have many "apps" that are not available on a 2003-2013 full install. I have no need for those apps but can see how people sitting in offices across the world would use them constantly. 2019 / 365 is really made for smart phones. If I have a document issue, my wife is still on Windows and can do any fixing with 2007 there. Al Flash Fill in Excel is useful, though buggy. still. It was introed in O 2016, there’s known bugs which haven’t been fixed as of O 2019. The goal-seeking, also in Excel, has had some bugs fixed. Macros, particularly but not limited to, Excel, have improved. Outlook has better behaviour with non-MS (cough, Gmail) accounts. Word has some bug fixes, notably with the Tables and Pictures (bit-mapped images) sections. PowerPoint has had changes to how themes work, improvements to layouts, new themes, a new (and very annoying) design ‘help’ feature. some other odds and ends. Access got some bugs fixed but is still Access. I could probably have lived with Office 97 (98 on Macs) but the bug fixes and some of the rest is nice to have, though not essential. I haven’t paid for Office since 97/98; I had ‘free’ copies due to taking various courses which had ‘free’ (translation: you paid for it as part of the tuition...) Office installs and do some adjunct instructing at a local uni and thereby have free access to Office and all MS OSes from DOS 3 up. Including server software, which is how I got my home ADDS network set up. I use MS Office because I have to round-trip files to others who use Office, and LibreOffice and iWork have been known to have problems round-tripping. (MS has had compatibility problems, too; O 2007/8 could and did have round-trip problems with O 2010/11, especially PowerPoint PPTX but not PPT files. That was fixed in O 2013, there was no O 2014 for Mac.) |

The free "upgrade" from Windows 7 still seems to work as well, despite the official offer having expired a long time ago. So that may well be another "nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more" from MS to encourage people to update. I have done this quite a few times for customers recently who needed or wanted Win10 for one reason or another and all of them have activated at no charge. I though M$O 2003 was very useful and did not like the migration to tiles. A lot of people are with you on that one. It is missing a bunch of nice feature, but it works really well and can eat envelopes alive. Libre Office can not print an envelope for its life, despite all the complaining on its bug reporter.
