Default ie7, windows xp pro, red x for .png files

I recently upgraded my system to load in SP2 and SP3 and then I upgraded to
IE7. Now, I get the red X instead of .png files. Now, I have searched high
and low and can't seem to fix the problem. I am posting here becuase I only
see an IE6 forum. I have tried the standard stuff MS recommends (turn on
pictures, clean cache, etc). I have made sure java and quicktime are up to
date, tried to link the png files to open from IE, cleaned out registry
files, etc. Most of the info out there is for Vista now (turn off UAC),
which doesn't help me. Also, it seems that a lot of the posts out there are
from a year ago. Now, I can't understand why there is so much confusing info
and so little solutions for a problem that is over a year old, much less why
I've spent weeks trying to track down and am no closer to getting it fixed.
ANY solutions are appreciated. Thanks!

Mark

mvollmers;

See if this looks familiar:
PNG images are not displayed on Web sites in Internet Explorer
http://www.winhelponline.com/article...-Explorer.html

This utility may also help:

1. Download Deckard's Association File Tool (DAFT) and save it to your
desktop.
2. Rename daft.exe to daft.com and double click on it to run.
3. Read the disclaimer and click OK.
4. Click on the Scan button.
5. If it finds faulty file associations, they will appear in red beside a
checkbox. If this occurs, just place a checkmark (tick) in the boxes in
question.
6. Click the Fix button.

Thanks, Dave. I had found that site and downloaded the utility, but after I
ran it nothing changed. I rebooted and still nothing. that's when I
decided to post this, since I wasn't sure if I screwed up the utilty
(although it seems very straight-forward) or if I've got something else going
on. I'll give the DAFT tool a try though, too, and see if that helps.
