Default Remote Desktop: Unable to log in because of account restriction

Hi All,

I use Remote Desktop extensively, mostly so that I can use a 1080p HD
monitor to access my three Windows machine; 2 Win10 and one WinXP. I decided
to reconfigure my network. Now, when I try to RDP to my WinXP machine, I am
confronted with "Unable to log in because of account restriction". What do I
need to do on this XinXP machine to lift the account restrictions? I can log
in as 'administrator', but that is not what I need.

Thanks.

Sorry, fixed. For obvious security reasons, it is not possible to RDP into
windows without a password. Now, I only need to worry about the blue screen
of death.

Did you configure a password on the Windows account (under which you
want to login) on the remote host? Even if you configure Windows to
automatically login (an unencrypted registry entry that exposes your
login credentials to send to the login dialog), you still need a
password on the account (that you specify from your local host) to log
into that Windows account on the remote host).

Didn't see you replied to yourself before submitting my prior post.

Now, I only need to worry about the blue screen of death.

You can configure Windows to issue a BIOS request to reboot the host
after a blue screen; however, if booting Windows or loading startup
programs causes the blue screen, your host will keep continually
rebooting - BSOD, reboot, BSOD, reboot, ad infinitum. The host will be
just as unusable while constantly rebooting as it would be when stuck at
a BSOD. You need to address the causes of the BSODs which may require
your local presence.

The normal recommendation (so you can troubleshoot a BSOD) is to *not*
allow automatic restart after a BSOD. Restarting is really for
workstations where a human is present to do the troubleshooting, like
choose Windows safe mode or "last known configuration" in the boot menu.

If the host doesn't or won't reboot after a BSOD, there are networked
power switches (like for IP cameras) that can be remotely accessed to
have them cycle power to the connected equipment. Of course, it cannot
be the crashing host that is used as a router or gateway for the network
segment on which the networked (remote) power switch is connected; else,
you cannot get IP traffic to the network switch to have it power cycle
the equipment.
