Getting rid of drives in the 'SendTo' menu.
Hello All,
Reading "nil"s response in regard to the "SOLVED: I finally figured out how to open by doubleclicking text files (like HOSTS) with no file extension in Windows in the editor of choice" thread (a method I also use) I revisited the folder to, at long last, scrub it from items I do not want/need there. But although removing the standard send to compressed folder, -mail recipient and -desktop entries is easy enough to do (and restoring them is as easy as copying the relevant filenames from the hidden desktop.ini file), it still showed my DVD R/W drive. Google showed a solution in adding a "NoDrives" entry to the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies\Explorer folder", but doing so also hides the drive from explorer, which is not at all my intention. tl;dr: How do I remove (all) drives from the "SendTo" menu *and only there*. JJ,
See below. Specifically the last section. [snip link] Thanks. But the article describes some registry stuf for Win7 (and Vista), not XP ... .... and I realize I already encountered that article, and found the NoDrive suggestion (for XP) on that very site. :-) Regards, Rudy Wieser |

I don't think there's any setting for it in XP. In Windows Vista+, that setting is referenced by SHLWAPI.DLL. It doesn't exist in XP's SHLWAPI.DLL, and the DLL has much less policy settings mentioned. If you only use third party software for burning CD/DVD, you might want to try disabling the IMAPI shell extension instead. |

JJ,
Oh, right. I don't think there's any setting for it in XP. I already assumed as much (having read the W7/Vista solution), but thought it could not hurt to ask ... If you only use third party software for burning CD/DVD, you might want to try disabling the IMAPI shell extension instead. :-) I think I have burned a CD only a very few times (and never a DVD), so perhaps the above might be something to look into - I just have to read up about the side effects of such a solution though (apart from not being able to use the build-in CD/DVD burning I mean). Thanks, Rudy Wieser |

Most CD burner softwares which already exist before Windows XP is released, don't use IMAPI. But you should check it with your CD burner software first, since I don't know which one you use. |
