Default OT chat between computers

I'm been wishing for a simple chat program, too. I just installed this
and it seems to be just what I've been looking for.

I have a simple LAN in our house. Upstairs, one computer is a
desktop wired to the lan. The printer close by but connected
through the LAN. The other computer is a laptop connected
wirelessly and used through out the house.

Is there a "SIMPLY TO USE" chat program that will allow
communications between the computers?

Frequently when my wife is on the desktop and I am on the Laptop
it would be nice to send simple messages; Please turn on the
printer, Don't turn off the Desktop I am sync files, etc.

I want it simple so I can click and icon, type in the request, and
my wife can do the same thing to answer.

I found Tonic but was hesitant to install it as per the note at the
bottom of the page is in no longer underdevelopment so will need to be
replaced in the future.

We'll all need to replaced at some point. That's usually not a good reason,
by itself, not to use something. The bigger question is, does it do what you
want? (The pros.) Does it do anything you don't want? (The cons.) Weigh out
both sides and see where it falls.

I've got quite a few programs the work fine and have stopped being
updated as far back as 2004. Granted I wish there were a few features
in some, but what they do, they do right.

As long as it does what I want and doesn't have any bugs that get in my
way, I don't much care if it's still under development.

In this case, it seems to do its simple job as advertised. However,
there might be an issue - I'm still looking into it. On one of my
Windows 7 machines, Tonic's System Tray Icon seems to disappear. On
another Win7 machine it's OK. If that turns out to be a real problem,
the program won't be useful to me.

It seems to work just fine in Windows XP. I haven't tried it on Windows
8.

It works fine in Windows 8 here. My only complaint about it is that if
you have a message, there is only a small icon blinking. I'd like to
see something more prominent.
