Default "checking online for a solution"

I'm using Vista but it seems a lot like 7.

Is there a way to turn off the process that generates the message,
"checking online for a solution"?

It's never yet found a solution, so this is just another waste of my
time.

How can I turn it off? Thanks.

They move the furniture in each OS. Dr.Watson, dwwin, werfault,
the cavalcade of fun.

Yes, there is a GUI.

No, you won't always be happy with the results.

On average, it takes all evening to track down
enough registry settings to even get close
to taming that stuff. It's like training
a puppy to use the litter box :-)

In addition to what Paul said, how about tracking down the source of the
issue that causes the message and fix that, instead of clobbering the
message and leaving the issue in place?

You may have tried that already, but I thought I'd ask.

Two programs in particular. I sort of know what the problems are. And
Windows says it's checking online but never finds anything.

If it found things I'd be happy to have it.

Paul, I never had a puppy.

Thanks, both of you.

I don't know why I was so vague. The two programs are Firefox, which
crashes when I have too many tabs open. I'm working on that. For one
thing this, this free Vista box has only 2 gig, so I'm going to move
eventually a box with 4 gig.

The other is Eudora, which never crashed before, and I presume won't
again when I get back to XP or on to 7, and have 4 gig.

I've been following Performance in Task Manager. IIRC, there's an
enhanced version of Performance somewhere.
