Default Windows 8: how to configure windows defender?

Hia folks

We are installing out first few Windows 8 PCs, for testing, and we're
stuck on Windows Defender configuration.

On W7/Windows XP, there are options, in Security Essencials, that seem
to have been removed from the new Defender: day/time for regular scans
and default actions the program carries out when it finds something.

We've tried but can't find these configurations anywhere. Any ideas?

The options have been removed. I've found that you can only set a default action when Defender
finds something. You can then choose what you want to happen to the item.

Whaaaat?! Damn, that's crapped up, specially in a network. We want our
users to mess with is as little as possible...

Plop a copy of EICAR on your Windows 8 test machine, then
you should see this :-)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...nder_EICAR.png

EICAR is a kind of test file for AV tools, to "see if they're awake".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EICAR_test_file

Using that, you can see what a user would see, without really infecting the machine.

Apparently, the control panel for Windows Defender can only be seen
directly, if you have the control panel window in icon view. I can't
verify that right now, so that's something else you can play with.

There is not.
Corrective action is pre-configured to quarantine (and remove after 3 months unless configured differently).

Good link, thanks.

Why the hell did they change this? In Win7, we had our PCs set to scan
daily, at lunch hour, and auto-remove anything, so as to maximize
security. Now...
