Maybe marble? It is cross platform and free. Currently I can not test it in this machine, so I can't say what it actually does. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marble_(software) Ah poop! Back to the greyscale problem. Thank you anyway! https://marble.kde.org/img/gallery/osm-themes.png |

In article , wrote:

But who can afford one? pretty much everyone, and it's not necessarily going to be better. https://www.pcworld.com/article/3261...0nw-color-lase r-printer-deal.html Staples is selling Dellıs C1760nw color laser printer for just $75, down from its $250 MSRP. Thatıs a huge price drop compared to what youıll find elsewhere. A third-party seller on Amazon has it for $138, and Best Buyıs selling it (on sale) for $220, though Staples had the same deal on this printer last April. brother has a $199 model, no sale prices needed: https://www.brother-usa.com/products/HL3140CW and those aren't the only options. |

I think the answer is no, for a variety of reasons, where the only workaround known is to print to a file (or snapshot to a file) and then edit that file accordingly. Contrast, B&W, grayscale, etc. The key question is which is the best general purpose solution, where _that_ would be of use to everyone. Me? I generally use Irfanview or Paint.NET, but I don't have a prescribed action plan that I can edify others of that is specific to Google Maps. Maybe others do? |

| https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marble_(software) | This looks like a nice sub for Google Maps! Scribblemaps seems to be just Google maps and OpenStreetMap with drawing tools. OpenStreetMap itself is limited and poor quality. Marble seems to use OpenStreetMaps. OSM is so bad they don't even have a usable API. There are go-betweens that host the vast map collection. It's hard for a free, OSS service to pay for that kind of upkeep and traffic. There isn't much other than Google and Bing that provide really good maps covering everywhere. It's a vast undertaking. I can't imagine any better solution than you're using now: Get maps from Google and tweak them in a graphic editor. |

Now, that the result is the best contrast for reading it... I don't know. So, you want a map software that knows how to print in greys with best choices of greys. Uh-oh... -- Cheers, Carlos E.R. |

Scribblemaps seems to be just Google maps and OpenStreetMap with drawing tools. OpenStreetMap itself is limited and poor quality. Depends on the area. In mine, it is pretty good. You just need generous people in the area. Marble seems to use OpenStreetMaps. OSM is so bad they don't even have a usable API. Huh? -- Cheers, Carlos E.R. |
