I just downloaded this on two PCs. No problems at all, but it wasn't
what I've been expecting. I mistakenly thought this was the upgrade
to 1903. It isn't. It a May 2019 update to 1809. Other than not
being on patch Tuesday, I don't understand what the big deal is.

1903 will show up if you request it after the latest 1809 update.

rolling-out-to-everyone-slowly/
...Initially, only those who explicitly visit Windows Update and
click "Check for Updates" will be offered version 1903, and even
then, they'll have to explicitly choose to download and install the
update.

It is Windows 10 1903 and I have installed on two of my test machines.
At the weekend, I will roll-out to other machines in my company. We
have a bank holiday coming so I'll have plenty of time to do the
necessary work before people coma back to work on Tuesday 28th May.

You know how that web page works, right ?

It's UserAgent string sensitive. It wants to know what OS
you're calling in from.

The page responds differently, if you visit that page from
Windows XP or you use some Linux distro and browser.

For a modern Windows visitor, the Windows they have will
have a modern version of .NET library. This allows
Microsoft to provide a "stub downloader", such as
MediaCreationtool, and that program will then download
an ISO for you. MediaCreationTool needs .NET to run.
Like maybe .NET 4.0 or so.

But if you visit the web page from Windows XP, you will be
offered a *direct* link to the ISO file.

This is how it has worked in the past.

Since the ISO files are becoming so large now,
you want to check two things:

1) The destination filesystem is not FAT32 (4GB limit).
You don't want the download to stop, because FAT32 cannot
handle a file larger than 4GB.

2) The ISO filesize is less than 4.7GB. If the file
is bigger than that, you'll need dual-layer DVD media
if you expect to burn an optical disk for doing
Clean Installs with it.

For many people, this will mean preparing a USB flash
drive instead, with the OS image on it. As that is more
practical than tracking down dual layer media.

You can mount the ISO by right clicking it, and do an
Upgrade Install while Windows 10 is running. This does
not require the preparation of media.

So while you got "some kind of crap" when you visited the
page, there are ways to get it to cough up the real goods.
I'm in no mood to test this today (it's a lot of downloads
for so very little benefit this time). Like, they've threatened
to throw away cleanmgr.exe and only allow you to use
Storage Sense. To which I reply "**** You". I refuse
to allow automation to have anything to do with
"Deleting Stuff". Stay away from me, if this is
what you propose to do with software. Stay out of
my arms reach if you want to remain safe...

Sorry. I shouldn't have left that link in there when I replied. I
just went to Windows update and had it check for updates. It found
KB4497934 and installed it. I then did a second check for updates and
nothing was found. Other poster thought I would be offered 1903 but I
wasn't. Yes, I could download 1903 manually and install it, but I was
under the impression Windows Update would deliver it starting today.
Sorry for the confusion. I knew what I meant ;-)

This is a "major Upgrade" and therefore you don't get it automatically
until your turn comes up. Automatic updates is based on queuing system
or what Americans call it "You'll need to wait in line for your turn".

There is a link on the download page which allows you to "To get started".

By the way, there is no need to rush to get this. Your current system
will run for another 12 months before you'll be pestered to upgrade. I
have one machine still on 1709 and i have kept it as it is to test
something. The system keeps downloading the upgrade files and stores
them in $WINDOWS.~BT and $Windows.~WS and I keep deleting them whenever
I see them.

Maybe not for you. I used the same URL - one for an X32 PC update and
then again for an X64 PC update.

Both PCs are now at Version 1903 (OS Build 18362.116)

Why are you not blocking Mr. Man-wai Chang? Lately
it seems that most of the posts I see are from people
complaining about posts from people who should be
blocked. Arlen Holder posts nonsense and attacks and
what do people do? Block him? No. They argue with him!

Mr. Man-wai Chang, along with Good Guy and some
others, may very well be Microsoft shill accounts. (It
wouldn't be the first time MS have "marketed" via
newsgroup plants.) Whether they are or not, why not
just block them? Or if you want to read them then don't
respond with complaints, so the rest of us won't have to
read them.

I think the post I responded to was one of the reposts. I certainly have
plenty of people killed - especially the one who keeps changing his
details (I have quite a complicated rule for him, which I'm not going to
post so he can see how to get round it).

I am not a moderator!

Does Win 7 play tricks with BD PROCHOT in its automatic updates? I don't
remember hearing anyone complaining about that, until some people
reported Intel had security issues and needed microcode patch.

These whole Intel CPU buggy stories can be a conspiracy theory....

You're going to have to provide a URL reference to this thing.

PROCHOT has only one meaning. It has nothing to do with software *at all*.
