None of them! WinXP does not support DVD drives. You will need 3rd party software to make it work properly for you. For internal drive I suggest Sony Black DW-Q30B Dual Layer 16X DVD+ & DVD-R and RW DVD Burner OEM. Cheap and does exactly what it says on the tin!! For 3rd party software, use Roxio Media Centre version 7.5 (version 8.0 is still new and buggy) hth Spin wrote: Does anyone know of any good DVD burner hardware out there compatible with Windows XP? -- Spin |

A couple of good sources for TY media a http://www.rima.com/ http://www.supermediastore.com/media1.html A bit over the top! If you have something constructive to say, then say it and do not use trite cliches to hide behind. Exactly what did I say that was "a bit over the top"? It is a case of matching the media to the burner. That was true 6 months ago, but if you had kept up with CDFreaks sub-forums on these topics you would discover that there is a sea change going on in the DVD media world. Solid names like Verbatim, owned by Mitsubishi, have succumbed to market pressures and in some well-documented cases are putting real crap out. It has come down to this: If you can match the media to the drive, that's great. There are some real bargains in off-brand media. But be forewarned that at any time you could and likely will experience a bad spindle because the manufacturer put crap on the market. There is one very notable exception: Taiyo Yuden. If you buy genuine TY-branded media, you will get genuine TY-made media and not some crap from a factory in India. And here's the really good news: Because of these very same market pressures that are driving most manufacturers to put out crap, TY has had to lower its prices to compete. That means you can buy the real thing for the same price as the crap. I have been using Excel (OptodiscOR4 or 8) media with great success with my LiteOn 832S. I have used several media on my NEC 3540 with varying results. All of a sudden out of nowhere, a spindle of Verbatims came up with 4 coasters out of 60 burns. I have never experienced that even with crap brands like MemorWrecks. I inspected the active surface with a magnifying glass and strong light and could see the problem - dye splotches. Verbatim knowingly shipped crap to the market. So now I only use Taiyo Yuden. It costs the same as Verbatim so why not use it. The point I am making is that you are vulnerable to problems in the future when you use anything other than Taiyo Yuden. BTW, have you tried to play those discs of yours 1 year after burning them? We had to toss about 100 MemorWrecks discs because they would not play after 1 year. Now we have to backup everything a second time - on TY discs. -- BOYCOTT SONY! Actually, a recent review of Sony's latest DVD-RW offering wasn't
very good. I can only think of one Optical company whose products seem to always be first quality - Plextor. "Yves Leclerc" wrote in message ... While scanning the Internet, I discovered the several Sony models appear to be "re-branded" Benq drives. Check on The Firmware Page (www.rpc1.org) for more info. With Sony's disastrous DRM rootkit fiasco, I would stay away from Sony drives. On 15/11/2005 (Bob) wrote: On Mon, 14 Nov 2005 23:45:05 -1000, "NoNoBadDog!" wrote: BOYCOTT SONY! Please do not top post. It is the sign of a newbie. Plextor has indeed enjoyed a good reputation but they have not kept up with the market. Their price is not justified and they too are rebranding - so I am told. The most widely approved drive is the NEC 3540 with the BenQ 1640 in a close second place for the moment. -- BOYCOTT SONY!
