Default What is the advantage of a shared folder in WLM?

Are these just hyperlinks to existing files? Or is it a duplicate
folder? So it uses more diskspace...

It copies over the files to the Sharing Folder and yes, uses more disk space.

I'm not to keen on this design myself.
