Strictly speaking the 5450 and 6450 are out of support, and were out of support some time ago. But you may still get something to work there. Can't I run a "live" DVD/USB flash drive to see if the hardware is supported? Or I could check out the manufacturer's website, which is what I did. https://www.asus.com/Graphics-Cards/EAH5450_SILENTDI512MD2LP/HelpDesk_Download/ OS Windows 10 64-bit So it should work. -- s|b |

Well, I did get at least one driver for mine. The original driver is CCC based. Crimson was CCC2. What I can't remember, is if the driver is XDDM or WDDM. At some point, I would expect support for XDDM drivers on Windows 10 to stop. The CCC driver I had at first, used to throw some errors and log messages (EventVwr). The newer driver, that was the noteworthy achievement, is finally that bug got stomped. The driver itself, I don't expect any code was added to things that count. For example, only the later drivers have the interface that helps add a GPU usage section to Task Manager. With the new video card in the Win10 machine, there is a "GPU usage" display in the Performance section. It helps occasionally, give a "hint" as to whether some software you're using, might actually be getting a benefit from the video card. That doesn't happen all that often. I can compile NVidia CUDA packages (demos) using the 2GB download from NVidia, and the Visual Studio home edition, and that will rail the video card. But for most ordinary usage, you don't see any "good usage" coming from the new video card. ******* Here is the essence of the driver you located. InstallDir = "AMD\CCC2\Install" DisplayUninstall = "AMD Display Component Uninstall" ATIR300="WDDM (R300)" So, it's a CCC2 (Crimson) early version of some sort, and it is some version of WDDM. Windows has many version numbers of WDDM, but that line doesn't tell us which one. At least it's not XDDM, so you're in good shape. You see, I didn't search for that driver. Because I found a "beta" of the one you got, and that was "good enough" to make my Win10 stuff pass muster. My card isn't retired. It may still get used in my refurb some day. The refurb has only VGA, and the 6450 has "more connectors". It also has decently low power drain, so won't blow up any power supplies if I use it. Paul |
