And how does the MS to recognize the WindowsUpdate if they are registered or not? hello The Microsoft webpage with Win10TP on it, still has the originally released version. I used the checksum value listed, and compared to my copies. And what is offered there, has not changed since it was released. There is an Updates sub-panel in Win10TP, that allows you to upgrade to the latest build, without a Store account. It doesn't even tell you what build you're getting. http://img.schieb.de/wp-content/uplo...view-build.jpg The original 64 bit TP is 4GB. The update (new build) I got yesterday was 2.8GB more download. That is the only new build that I have pulled to date. And it still doesn't support FLAC, which comes around Jan22 or so. Paul |

I'm curious, why is flac support interesting? We've had flac support for a decade or more. Will it be different somehow in the new OS? |

It was announced well before being available, and they could just as easily announced it when it was actually available (in the currently delivered build). The rest of Win10TP has been "deck chair movement". On my WinXP install here, GSpot lists FLAC in the CODEC list, but actual FLAC files cannot be played. They can be played in third party tools (like VLC). So it's not like I can't play them. I actually had to hunt down some FLAC test files, because it's not a format I've used before. But getting something from Microsoft is like "Christmas". The Windows Media Center in Windows 8 (optional add-on), gives you a grand total of two new codecs for your money. So getting CODECS out of Microsoft, is like extracting pocket change from Scrooge McDuck :-) Paul |

I don't think MS had to pay anything to include it, (it's free, after all), and it's been freely available since forever, so I don't see the big deal. Those of us who are interested in lossless digital music formats have probably been using flac since it became available, somewhere around 2001. I don't mind if MS wants to start including it in their new OS, but I just hope they don't somehow screw it up for the rest of us. |

Paul I "joined" the test and downloaded the first version, and it has updated to the latest version constantly. But my VM crashed so I had to reload the ISO. I got it not from that join but from another MS link and just downloaded it. They compare at least byte wise to each other but I when I check for new build since I'm one behind right now, there is none available. I also don't see where that fast/slow mode thing they talk about is. So I wonder if I really do have a different ISO. |
