Xref: kermit microsoft.public.windowsxp.messenger:40249
I use Netmeeting on a daily basis (for business purposes) and upgraded to Windows XP mainly for the enhanced video conferencing, application sharing and Remote Assistance facilities - non of which I can get to work with XP (via the internet). Current Situation : i. All the above features work fine across the LAN ii. None work when I try via the internet (dial up connection to communicate to the computer on the LAN, or to activate with third parties (who all have Windows XP) iii. NatHub is Non UPnP - Compex NP15B (NP15-D functional equivalent)- with latest firmware iv. Windows 'Internet Connection Firewall' is unchecked v. Nortons Internet Security is disabled vi. Netmeeting still works OK via the internet vii. Ports have been opened on the NatHub as per the various publications from Microsoft, eg,'Windows Messenger in Windows XP : Working with Firewalls and Network Address Translation Devices', specifically : Ports 5004-65535 UDP Ports 5004-65535 TCP (makes no difference with or with this) Port 3389-3389 TCP Port 3389-3389 UDP Port 1503-1503 TCP Ports 6891-6900 TCP Any suggestions on what else needs to be configured ? Video & Voice with NatHub - Non UPnP
If your router has a DMZ-function, you could as a test let it point to the
pc that you want to use Messenger on. Otherwise I would adwise you to use routers with UPnP support in both ends (or a modem dial-up in one end), then every thing works in my tests. I have tested it with the router "Linksys BEFSR41", it only works with the latest firmware, 1.44.2. -- Regards, Peter, Denmark (Remove the x from my email address to get the true address) "Rod Maddock" wrote in message ... Video & Voice with NatHub - Non UPnP
A simple way to avoid the NAT and non-uPnP trouble, is to set up a VPN
between the two sites. It's very simple to do with the build in PPTP protocol in Windows. -- Regards, Peter, Denmark (Remove the x from my email address to get the true address) "Rod Maddock" wrote in message ... Video & Voice with NatHub - Non UPnP
Peter,
Thanks for your suggestions. I tried the DMZ-function, but this did not make any difference. Re your second suggestion, I had great difficulty setting up a VPN connection, but eventually was able to get the computers to establish a connection. Once connected, I could not perform any functions at all. So the connection was established, but I was not able to do anything with it. Even if I could get this working, I need to be able to video conference with many different people around the world, so, I doubt the VPN option would be practical (for the other people). Thanks again. Rod "Rod Maddock" wrote in message ...
