Default ?? Installing a ssecond HDI

OK. I'm a blonde.

I want to install a second harddrive on my desktop computer. I want to make
a dual-boot system. How do I do the installation? Are there settings for
master, slave, jumpers, i/o, etc. that I need to know about?

Thank you for advice and hand-holding.

Complicated. Lots of jargon.

How do I check the BIOS to see if it will support a 160 Gig drive?
(I'm using Win XP)

I want to make the new drive the main drive. Master, I guess. Do I have to
put it in the slot that the old drive is occupying now? Or can it be
"Master" no matter which bay it's in?

Am I supposed to follow the directions for IDE or ATA or SATA?

Thanks.

One more question -- the directions said to make a DOS boot disc. Do I do
this when I'm using XP? I thought they killed off DOS or at least buried it
deep enough that you can't boot to DOS anymore.

If you keep reading you will get the information you need. Physical
location is immaterial, it's the connector on the ATA cable that is used
and that is explained too. If you have trouble with terminology, see the
wiki site. Read, read read.

Also, this guide has some good info. Click a topic on the side bar:

Bob -- you are absolutely no help whatsoever. What's the point of even
being on this NG if all you do is tell people to Google and read?

Like my gramma used to say, "You're useless as teats on a boar hog."

"rain drops", this newsgroup is for resolving issues with making
hardware work with Windows XP. See the title? So far nothing you have
asked pertains to Windows XP. You really need to take a hint. While we
are repeating old adages, did your gramma tell you about "leading a
horse to water" , or perhaps "teaching a man to fish"? Or perhaps gramma
never taught you to look things up for yourself?
