Using XP SP3. My question relates to the "Windows Firewall".

If I am to use the firewall (which I would love to do...) I

an "exception" to be set to allow IP protocol number 41 thru

However there seems to be no protocol related settings
available
using the typically MS dumbed-down GUI. "Netsh" commands do
not
seem to provide a solution either.

Is it possible using Regedit ? Searching the www did not help
locate appropriate registry settings :=(

TIA

What kind of tunneling are you referring to?

The tunneling interfaces Windows networking creates for
different types of traffic, including but not limited to 6-in-4;
this is irrelevant.

I've double checked Microsoft technet : not only the Windows XP
(toy) firewall does not allow conrol of IP protocols other than
TCP,UDP and (partly) ICMP, it also provides no way to control on
the tunneling interfaces or any interface indeed which is not
shown in the network connections control pannel applet.

So I got my answer : I must dump the FW - could as well dump
Windows altogether; MS was never good on networking anyways.

Did they address this problem in newer Win versions ? I'm told
the TCP/IP stack in Vista and ff. was redone from scratch -
which doesn't tell whether their firewalls are better and finer
grained. Anyone ?

Mr. NimbUs

For Microsoft Firewall will setup;
any Software or post you need to exit with.

But if you on a Router or Workgroup Switch,
you have to setup it Firewall, For the PC_IP:Post
to bypass the Router firewalls..

Your Router Setup page is at::
http://192.168.0.1

Name: admin

or

Name: admin
Password: password

Do to forwarding,
and set up your tunneling there..

*sigh*

Windows Firewall with Advanced Security - Inbound Rules - New Rule

Custom Rule - Protocol Type - Custom - Protocol Number - 41..

Next Next OK

Of course you'll need to upgrade from XP to do it... not sure about
Vista, but that's where you'll find it in Win 7

Not True

I can do it from XP, 2000, 98, and 95 too......
http://s-e.mynews.ath.cx:1361/router-firewall.png

Windows 95 has a built in firewall? I don't think so... Microsoft
didn't include their firewall until XP.

If you read his post, he is clearly talking about creating an exception
in the Windows firewall.

For a start, Mr Hottext should try to grasp the difference
between (IP) protocol numbers, vs. (TCP,UDP) port numbers.

why would he need to go to ACA-V for assistance with an obvious
Windows question?

No is send hem to AH-M

It was not just a Windows question,

Did you read it?

Let me repost it for you..

"Using XP SP3. My question relates to the "Windows Firewall""

What part of that led you to believe he wasn't talking about the Windows
firewall?

and the answer was that Windows Firewall or registry settings,
is not the problem..
But the Router firewalls is the one causing the big problem...

You can troubleshoot your router all you want - no changes you make
there will address his question that "relates to the Windows Firewall"

No Not right it was not include with XP sp1.....

For starters, I didn't specify any particular service pack level, only
that it wasn't included "until XP".. but since you wish to argue the
particulars, don't you find it odd then that there would be instructions
for people using XP and XP sp1 to set up their firewall...

http://www.uic.edu/depts/accc/lan/re...ewall.html#sp1

Sorry chump... we were finding ways to break that the moment it
appeared... in this NG even... I can't help it if you came late to the
party.. but even so, you might want to check your facts before you
post.. just sayin....

And firewall were include in XP sp2 update..

All firewalls,

Really? Because what he said in his post was...

and I quote..

"Using XP SP3. My question relates to the "Windows Firewall". "

You probably don't remember those commercials that proclaimed "Reading
Is Fundamental" for the RIF program... you might want to familiarize
yourself with the content though.

Now how able the antivirus firewalls..

Hey, Hot-Mess? I want you to take a look at something since words

Now, of the five images I pasted links to, do you see an applet

for
a
"Windows Firewall" in the first two images?? No?? I didn't think

so.

Micro$oft didn't add an option for a Windows Firewall, as ThePsyko
pointed out to you, until XP came along.

And if you're even remotely considering the possibility that IPsec
is
a "firewall"?? I'm sorry to say, but I have even more bad news for
you.. IPsec is *not* a firewall. Not by a long shot.

Do everyone a huge favor, hmmmm? Stop talking about things you

know
**** about. Instead, stick to what you *do* know.. like drooling

in
the corner or coloring outside the lines.

You're an idiot... with Downs. That's all you are and that's all

you
will ever be.

Have a day..

If the guys from Dumb and Dumber had a child, it would be smarter

than
Hot-Text...

I'd hate to think of a hell-spawn of that magnitude with that much
dumbness. Here I was thinking that even bird **** (while the bird is
still in flight, mind you) had more sense than he does.

I would use the old saying that he's "a few fries short of a Happy
Meal", but I'd be insulting Micky D's and I'm not sure I want to do
that.

Well.. he IS a clown!

You mean it's Ronald's freakishly stupid kid????? Oh ****!! I hope it
doesn't breed.

I don't think he can

Not without properly setting up a "Windows Firewall" on Win9x. Let
alone even finding the hidden applet for it.

Black Ice FTW. :-)
