XP Slowdown - 811493
Hi,
I have had the same problem on a rig less than a week old. Running a 2.66Pet 4 and it kept locking for upto 10 seconds when doing anything with saving, DVD or CD. What a pain in the arse Thanks for info you lot... help me loads Regards Barry (Cyrollan Ambassador) wrote in message . com... In addition to the severe slowdown, did anyone else have his or her DVD playback disabled? Trying to play a DVD would freeze my computer for 10 seconds, then fine for 5, then frozen for 10, etc. I use WinDVD 4, but the erratic behavior started shortly after I inserted the disc. WinDVD wouldn't start, along with Windows Media, PowerDVD, etc. When I thought Microsoft couldn't get any more pathetic... |

Thanks a lot to these posts and The Inquirer. I started noticing
slowdowns yesterday. The last one was waiting for the control panel to open so I could delete the 811493 patch. I had no problems deleting it and rebooting. Everything seems back to normal. |

I wasnt having a problem with the slowdown, but I uninstalled it anyways. I think I might reinstall it after hearing that one guy had to reinstall his whole system because it wouldnt reboot. -Greg http://www.supercgis.com/ |

XP Slowdown - 811493
Wow!! I ran into all of these problems last night!
I installed this 811493 patch Saturday night and when the system asked to restart the PC, I let it shutdown, but since it was late, I did not restart it. Last night, my son was trying to use my computer and it would NOT start up. Only the BIOS splash screen would come up. This morning I tried to start the computer and ran into the same problem. The PC would not respond to anything; "Ctrl-Alt-Del" would not work and the power button in the front would nor work either. Finally I pulled the plug and shut it down. When I restarted the PC, it took over 10 minutes to boot up. During this time, I noticed that the light in my CD-RW drive stayed on. The computer acted as if the hard drive was inop. When the PC finally booted, I got an error message saying that the CD ROM drive was not accessible. The CD-RW drive light was still on and I could not open the CD-RW Drive. The drive would not even show up in Windows Explorer. I then did a normal shut down and turned everything off. Upon restarting the PC, everything seemed to work again but everything has slowed down to a crawl! I am definitely going to uninstall this patch! Thanks for the information. Just a note to let all of you know that there some guys out there who
are fortunate enough to do fine. I run a PII - 350 MHz, 256MB, NVidia TNT2 graphics with XP Pro and have absolutely no problem whatsoever! I burned last Sunday a CD using Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum without a hitch. Cheers, Louis |

I uninstalled the patch last night. It was like running in water, now
I'm back in the open air. I hope Microsoft is up front about this, I'll stay away from the update site untill I'm convinced otherwise. btw: first time here, nice group. Bob |
