Windows XP Hotfix (SP2) Q811493
I have the same problem as Richard, except I'm using
Norton Anti-Virus instead of McAfee. When I disable Norton, every application runs so much faster. When I enable Norton again, everything comes to a screeching crawl. Since I don't want to be vulnerable to attack, I leave Norton enabled and live with a maddingly slow system. Any fix in the works? |

"in the works" yeah, but can't give a date. Microsoft are definately aware that it's a real problem that is "out there", I can tell you that if it's any help. The patch is an important one, I don't want to trivialise it, but you should check out the technical details in the bulletin that discusses it and decide how much of a threat it is to you day to day. If the performance problem is really spoiling things for you then you might... just might mind you... be able to "work around" the security hole it fixes and do without the patch in the meantime. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tre...ty/bulletin/MS 03-013.asp -- -- Rob Moir Microsoft MVP for Windows / Security www.robertmoir.co.uk |

Windows XP Hotfix (SP2) Q811493
Don, I heard this problem mentioned on The Screen Savers last night. I
surfed the TSS website this morning and they say that Microsoft suggests - first - uninstalling the patch - second - disabling your antivirus/autoprotect software - third - re-installing the patch then re-enabling your antivirus/autoprotect software. Of course, this is complete hearsay so I don't know if it really works. It's also possible that we may see an update to the patch coming from Microsoft soon - purely speculative. Best of luck.
