recently my computer has had very slow performance. it is
always slow for whatever i am doing. i read on microsoft
that it might be the sasser worm. BUT when i go to remove
the worm it says i am not infected???? if it is not the
sasser worm that is slowing down my computer what can be
slowing it down??

This page, provided by 24hoursupport.helpdesk newsgroup regular "Mike," may
be a good place to start:
http://uk.geocities.com/personel44/maintenance.html Just be really cautious
when you come to the section about cleaning up your registry.

If your antivirus scans have come up clean, another consideration is that
you may have spyware and adware running on your system, hogging resources.
AV software doesn't identify most of this stuff- for that, you need a
specialized tool like the freeware version of AdAwa
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ Install it, update its
reference file and run it to see what it finds- you might be very surprised
at the result.

Regards,
Ian.
