Win XP Service Pack 1 Install
The Install Wizard recommends "backing up the system" before continuing with
the installation. What exactly should be backed up? What is at risk if I don't back anything up? Should a restore point be created? thanks |

Should a restore point be created? I'm sorry I can't answer your above question, but I have another to add about Service Pack 1 (indeed, the whole update issue). My machine definitely needs some of the patches included in this SP 1, however, when I go to install over my clunky, slow phone line (as with I suspect 80% at least of other microsoft users) the install size if over 55 mb. This is simply too big and has to be broken down into much smaller stages, as my line does not allow for this. Indeed, because of this problem I'd previously completely given up on automatic downloads. Although, because I need SP 1 I've tried four times now to install, all failed. Last night I simply went to bed and left my computer connected because it takes such a huge amount of time to download that information. Result, of course, the computer/line simply choked, and when I look this morning, still Pack stalled on only half installed. A joke. Can someone please get this process sorted out so that it usuable by those of us (majority) who don't have broadband, etc, connections. |
