Blue Death again?

In the past, with a Win 98, I experienced a few blue death situations, but
since I moved to Win XP Home, everything was OK until a few days ago...

I was working on my desktop and have a few windows open. Suddenly, I heard a
ticking bomb sound coming from my computer and there was a dark blue screen
with a long text: "A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut
down to prevent damage to your computer. KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR...
Beginning dump of physical memory" (if a complete text is needed, I'll be
glad to provide). The only way to get reed of this message and ticking sound
was to switch power off, nothing else worked.

After I rebutted, machine worked fine. However, in a couple of days the
problem happened again. In a few days again...

Does anyone know what is going on? Is Win XP susceptible to the blue death,
too?

Most likely you have a hardware component i.e. RAM module
that is defective or failing.

If the first parameter is 0, 1, or 2, the parameters have the following =
meaning.

Parameter Description=20
1 0: Indicates that the page was retrieved from page cache=20
1: Indicates that the page was retrieved from a disk

2: Indicates that the page was retrieved from a disk, the storage =
stack returned SUCCESS, but Status.Information is not equal to PAGE_SIZE

2 Value actually found in the stack where the signature should be=20
3 0=20
4 Address of the signature on the kernel stack=20

If the first parameter is any other value, the parameters have the =
following meaning.

Parameter Description=20
1 Status code=20
2 I/O status code=20
3 Page file number=20
4 Offset into page file=20

My computer has suffered precisely the same symptoms . Reinstalling the
Operating system has solved the problem . I reckon , probably because I am a
novice , whatever they are , the Software Distribution may be to blame .
According to an article on Error 0x80248011 the Software distribution
folder in the Windows is not allowed to be any larger than 50mbs . When
trying to install Windows Update SP2 my computer would shut down and
previously would begin the ticking or switching ????
When I browsed the Newsgroups New Users I found posts about the error
0x80248011 and through there came across the information about Error
0x80248011 and someone had deleted the contents of the Software Distribution
Folder then rebooted their computer which allowed the installation of the SP2
Update . The same solution worked for me .
At this point I shouldn't suspect the oversized Software Distribution
folder for the switching/ticking but I thought perhaps as I often changed the
software in my computer the folder may have increased in size . I will try to
remeber to check it's size if the ticking/switching returns .
