Go to Start Run and type: MSCONFIG , and hit enter.
Click on the BOOT.INI tab and then click on "Check All Boot Paths" to delete incorrect boot paths. If the above does not work for you, then: Right-click MY COMPUTER and select: Properties Advanced Startup and Recovery Settings Edit CAREFULLY edit your boot.ini file to remove the SECOND entry. Your boot.ini file should then look similar to this: [boot loader] timeout=30 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOW S [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect -- Carey Frisch Microsoft MVP Windows XP - Shell/User Microsoft Newsgroups Get Windows XP Service Pack 2 with Advanced Security Technologies: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...xp/choose.mspx ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Loni" wrote: | I was going to reinstall windows but I was walked through the recovery | console. one error was corrected. now everytime i turn on my laptop (inspiron | 600m by dell) i have the option of windows setup or home edition. i want that | option to stop and run normally. help! |

At one point a reinstall of Windows into a different folder was started and not finished. There is a record of this in the boot.ini file. Removing the lines for the failed install will remove it as an option from the boot menu. More info he http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/xpfaq.html#22 If you are not comfortable editing this file, contact tech support again and have them help you with it. -- Sharon F MS-MVP ~ Windows Shell/User |
