Default lost ability to save any changes in files, etc.

My wife & I are administrators of our PC. I have total control as always of
what I apply and OK. I recently ran a "cleanup" program & deleted useless
programs in "add & delete & also disabled "ctfmon", etc. I use "Registry
Mechanic" & "Registry First Aid". My wife now lost her desktop & cannot pic
out another desktop or regain some lost shortcuts "Incredimail"(will not
open). Everytime she tries to make a change in "internet options", she will
hit apply or OK & when she opens up the same, all the changes were not saved.
I used "Kellys Korner" with her tips but she was denied use. I went into
"Firefox" and I see that her registry & my registry are different according
to "Kellys Korner" help. Did I inadvertantly disable her ability to save
changes? Also her taskbar will not show her shortcuts and her "My Computer"
shortcut disappeared from the desktop. XP Pro SP2

Now you know why registry cleaners are not recommended by most techs.
You have found out the hard way that a lot of what was deleted was not
"useless".

Try doing a System Restore to a date before you decided to do the
"housecleaning".
