Expiration date and consequences
I purchased windows xp pro 2 weeks ago and I am still trying to get it to
work on my machine. Meanwhile there is a countdown clock that is displayed--for registering the product--when I log into safe mode. What happens if I reach the 30'th day? Is there not a email (from a different machine) or a postal choice? |

Its not the registration process that you need to worry about its the
Activation Process..........if you fail to activate within that 30 day time period XP pro will cease to function. You will then need to do some fancy footwork to get it to work again. So activate...........now!! peter -- "Those are my principles. If you don't like them I have others." That's probably the message that I am receiving. Until I can get XP to work,
I can't activate. Registration is always completely optional; it's activation that's mandatory. What happens if I reach the 30'th day? Is there not a email (from a different machine) or a postal choice? After 30 days, the computer will stop working except in Safe Mode (it works in Safe Mode, so you can activate there). You say "I am still trying to get it to work on my machine." I Assume when you upgraded winxp it was an upgrade install? and you still
suffer the rebooting problem. Thought about trying a clean installation? You would need the qualifying cd, and your program cd's, of course you would lose all data so backups required. Do not use the win 9* backup utility for these. "Makeda42" wrote in message ... That's probably the message that I am receiving. Until I can get XP to work, I can't activate. I was getting an error message that no one here (or the Gateway site) was
able to debug. I finally took the machine to a friend who found the following: http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/win2000/1129847494 By the way, I tried activating from safe mode and I received the message that the operating system could not be activated from Safe Mode. That's why I was getting desperate. "Ken Blake, MVP" wrote: Makeda42 wrote: I purchased windows xp pro 2 weeks ago and I am still trying to get it to work on my machine.
