Problem sharing printer between XP home and 2000
I have a pc with XP home sharing a HP printer. I want to be able to
print to this printer from my 2000 machine. I can share files between the two computers, I can ping each computer, I can even see the printer under the XP Home machine that I want to be able to print too from my 2000 machine. Yet when I attempt to connect to the printer from my 2000 machine it says it is unable to do so. NetBIOS is running on both machines, and every other setting that needs set i have set. I have went through a million group posts and have tried everything EXCEPT one thing... And this is my question, the account I have on the 2000 machine has no password and it automatically logs in when the machine boots up. I read that if the machine has a blank password that it can cause me problems when trying to connect to the XP Home pc. Is this true? Or are they referring to a blank password for an account I'm using to log into another machine with and NOT the password to login locally? Thx in advance... |

You can either add the UserName and PW to the XP PC (as an additional user)
or enable the guest account on the XP PC. As far as PWs in general, I have no PW on any of my XP PCs, I do have one on my 2003 Server (for obvious reasons) and I PW protect the notebook when I'm out and about, but for general in home use, I trust my husband (and my cats). -- Cari (MS-MVP) Windows Client - Printing & Imaging www.coribright.com/Windows wrote in message oups.com...
