Default Windows XP Pro - Shut down freezes

I'm also having shut down problems with my Desktop Dell when shutting down
Windows XP Pro for the last couple months. It just freezes on the "shutting
down" blue screen and I eventually have to press and hold the button to
actually shut it down. The computer is about 3 years old and I've never had
this problem until the last couple months. I get all the Windows updates
automatically and have a cable connection so I know I have the updates as
something is getting pushed down almost everyday between Windows, Symantec
Norton Internet Security and Webroot Spy Sweeper. Are there any known
issues / resolutions with this?
