'System File Checker' crashes - 'Repair Install' freezes ???
My Windows XP SP2 computer has the annoying habit of crashing every once
in a while (usually while using Nero or some video program), so I decided to run SFC. Sadly, the computer crashes about 3/4 of the way through SFC, every time. So I tried to do a repair install. It made it as far as the "34 Minutes Left" - "Installing Devices" screen, and froze. Is there any way to find out what the problem is? I recently did a fresh install to fix another problem, and it's frustrating to not have it working reliably. Marty
I would try HD Tune (freeware). Download and run it and see what it turns up. http://www.hdtune.com/ Select the Info tabs and place the cursor on the drive under Drive letter and then double click the two page icon ( copy to Clipboard ) and copy into a further message. Select the Health tab and then double click the two page icon ( copy to Clipboard ) and copy into a further message. Also do a full surface scan with HD Tune. Another suggestion would be to download the drive manufacturers test utility, -- Hope this helps.
