Default highlighted & Raised Start Menu item in Windows XP Professional

hi guys,
I really have high hopes that I'll finally get answer to my question in this
group.

In windows XP, when a new program is installed, the New Program Groupu
becomes highlighted, if the 'Highlight Newly Installed Program" was
previously selected under 'Start Menu/Customize'.

BUT, what I'm trying to find out is, How can I change the property of a
single Start Menu Item, so that it gets highlighted, when Programs Menu pops
up. I need this so I can easily track some specific applications on my
Start Menu.

I know 'Highlight Newly Installed Programs' can be set using a registry key
as well, which is,
The registry method for this setting is to set DWORD value of
Start_NotifyNewApps=1 in the
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Advanced
registry key.

But, this is not going to help me. I need to figure out how windows
designates a Program in Registry as a New Program, so that it is identified
as new, and therefore, highlighted in Start menu.

Similarly, on my Windows XP Professional, My start menu displays the
frequently used Program Groups raised (in 3D view), which non-frequently use
Start Menu program groups are displayed pressed (in light Gray).

any tips on what registry entries I can set to customise individual program
groups with these display settings.

I spent several hours on internet searching for the answer, but I could not
find it.

I would really appreciate it if somebody can direct me to the right path.

Thanks.

Adnan.
