USB 2.0 Enhanced Controller
I need help finding, and installing, this controller. Search of the MS
website produces information relating to Service Pack 1. I have WinXP Pro SP 3 installed. I have USB 2.0 controllers, but not the enhanced version. I now have a peripheral that requires the enhanced version. Any help with this would be appreciated. |

You need the Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility to do it for you. Go to the Intel web site he http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filt...4&submit=Go%21 and get INF Update Utility - Zip Format (2231KB). - Thee Chicago Wolf I have a similar problem, but the chipset is VIA K8N800/VT8235m-ce. Is the Intel stuff gonna help? |

Is the Intel stuff gonna help? I keep all my installed drivers in a single folder, for reference. If I search in there, there is no mention of USB in the VIAMach section of the driver package. The VIA Hyperion (A.K.A. "4 in 1") driver package does enumerate System devices, and the details can be found in the VIAMach folder. But neither Dev 3038 (USB 1.1) nor Dev 3104 (USB 2.0) can be found in there. If, instead, I go to the Windows folder "INF", and search the text in there, I get a match in the "usbport.inf" file. If you open that file with Notepad C:\WINDOWS\inf\usbport.inf there are references to both PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3038 and PCI\VEN_1106&DEV_3104. USB drivers are now part of the OS installation. USB2 has been part of WinXP, since the release of SP1. In fact, hardware manufacturers are forbidden by the terms of the license, to bundle USB2 drivers since the release of SP1. And this is why, even for the mighty Intel, if you examine their driver package carefully, you'll find the USB section is stubbed out. (I.e. Even though it may say USB drivers are there, nothing happens when they run. At least the ones I've bothered to examine.) To install USB drivers, you need some way to convince WinXP to re-enumerate the USB devices. usbman.com has a procedure that can be done in Safe Mode. Another site has an automated tool, for doing much the same thing. It uses Microsoft "devcon" as a helper. I suspect, if you were to use one of those two options, the drivers which are built into WinXP, should install themselves. (Read both these links, before doing anything.) http://www.usbman.com/Guides/Cleanup...afe%20Mode.htm http://www.usbman.com/Guides/checking_for_usb_2.htm This is an automated way of doing the same thing. Undoubtedly, there are other automated ways like this available on other sites. http://www.robvanderwoude.com/devcon.html (See "RenewUSB.bat") If you need the VIA Hyperion 4-in-1 drivers, those can be obtained from the download link on Viaarena.com . You say that you have a USB2 based PC. Provided that it supports the high speed mode of communication (what most people incorrectly describe as USB2), then you *are* using the enhanced USB ports. |

With VIA you'd need to get the Hyperion drivers he http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx...D=1&CatID=1070 - Thee Chicago Wolf To add to the information in a general manner... Hardware drivers of a vendor are specfic in nature. They are specific to the vendor (Intel or AMD for instance), and the specific version and type of hardware in question. Normally, if not available at your location, an appropriate driver is available by way of the internet from the hardware vendor. The previous reply did that footwork for you by locating same and providing a weblink to same. A word of appreciation is appropriate. -- Dave |
