Why do some programs run faster on some machines and slower on oth
If you think this message would be better in another group please list that
group. I configured 6 Dell Vistro 200. I formated the harddrive I installed XP 64 I installed office 2007 I installed accounting software they use. They connect to a windows 2003 SBS. With a share named WORK Everyone has full Access to the share. The company accounting software is on the share. The Problem: 2 of the computers take up to 6 minates to load some programs ! The same programs load and are up and running in 30 sec. on the other computers. There is no virus checkers ! Firewall was turned off ! Secruity is the same for everyone . Why?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! What other programs will stop or slow a program from working? RECAP: 3 of the computer are running perfectly. The other 2 take for every to load and runn software. All other varibles are equal ( that I can tell ). All suggestions are welcome. Thank you for your time. Scott Burke |

You may also have applications that load and run in the background.
If you want to dig deeper: Try Autoruns from the MS Windows SysInternals site: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb963902.aspx AutoRuns will show/list all apps/etc. that load/run when you first boot ... (the 'Boot Execute' tab), when you logon (the 'Logon' tab) and other programs that load (grouped by labeled tabs) for easy viewing. It also provides the ability to selectively allows you to stop (use with care) any program that you don't want to load. You can undo any changes you have made. Note: To get additional details on an item in the list you can't readily identify you may need to highlight the item (right click) and use the 'Search Online' option to get the details, especially useful for the more obscure items in the list. -- JS http://www.pagestart.com "Scott Burke" wrote in message ... Scott Burke Since the six machines are identical, why not perform one clean installation of XP, install the upgrades and programs, and then make an immediate image of the one hard drive? Then you can restore that image to the other five PCs. Is the hardware in all the machines identical? If so, then at first all six PCs should run the same. If, over time, there are performance issues, it's because of what the individual users are or aren't doing (e.g., routine maintenance, installing other programs, contracting malware, etc.) No virus checkers? I don't agree with that decision at all. |
