"required for windows to run properly. It cannot be deleted."
I was making some changes to my system. But before I did the changes I saved
the "Desktop" folder to a "copy" folder. However now, after I am satisfied with everything, I tried to delete the "copy" folder, the system won't let me delete it. I get the msg "...is a Windows system folder and is required for windows to run properly. It cannot be deleted". I checked the folder's properties, turned off the "read only" attribute, and tried again. But I still get the same message. I am under the "Admin" user. How do I get rid of it? |

Easiest way is to create another account (Admin privileges)
Log in using the new account Delete the copy of the Desktop folder. If your using XP Pro you can also use the hidden account named 'Administrator' At the Welcome Screen, do/press the Ctrl-Alt-Del keys twice to display the Windows logon box. Type in "Administrator" (without the quotes), by default the password is blank, no password need be entered. -- JS http://www.pagestart.com "JED" wrote in message ... From the CMD prompt, turn off the System attribute for that "copy"
folder, using "ATTRIB -S "foldername" JED wrote: I was making some changes to my system. But before I did the changes I saved the "Desktop" folder to a "copy" folder. It didn't work. I have xp with sp3. It must be using a different mechanism to
prevent deletion. However, the post by JS did solve the problem. Creating another admin account worked. I don't really understand why, since
the other account was an admin account. The only difference being the other one was the default admin created by the install xp software. Anyways, thanks. PS. I am running the XP Home Edition with the SP3 update "JS" wrote: Easiest way is to create another account (Admin privileges) Log in using the new account Delete the copy of the Desktop folder. No worry as long as it's fixed!
