Upgrade disk is damaged
I downgraded my new laptop from Vista to XP. I t has now Wondoes Xp Home
Edition. When I tried using my XP Pro upgrade disk, it fails to transfer certain files. I attempted this half a dozen times. If my upgrade disk is damaged, what can I do? |

"How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and product upgrades, and replace product manuals" All of the Microsoft install media I've ever had were not copy protected, so you could consider making a backup copy in the future. (You could also get a copy from a friend, if a friend has a matching disk. The license key basically holds all the value of the license.) "Newsroomcoach" wrote in message ... Problems copying files or corrupted files during installation (even a Repair installation) are most often caused by defective, incompatible, or sub-standard hardware; in order of likelihood, either RAM, the hard drive, or the motherboard. On very rare occasions the CD drive or installation CD is the problem, but you seem to have eliminated this possibility. Start with testing the RAM. You might try MemTest86: http://www.memtest86.com/ It's free. Then you can download and use the hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic utility to test the hard drive. If both RAM and hard drive test out clean, check with the motherboard manufacturer for any diagnostic utilities. If my upgrade disk is damaged, what can I do? As already stated: How to Replace Lost, Broken, or Missing Microsoft Software or Hardware http://support.microsoft.com/default...B;en-us;326246 -- Bruce Chambers Help us help you: http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/555375 They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. ~Benjamin Franklin Many people would rather die than think; in fact, most do. ~Bertrand Russell The philosopher has never killed any priests, whereas the priest has killed a great many philosophers. ~ Denis Diderot |
