Default DVD-RW Drive now being recognisesd as CD Drive Only

I have happily been using my DVD RW drive with no issues, yet inexplicably a
few days ago, the drive is now being recognised only as a CD DRIVE in
Explorer and will no longer read any DVDs or CD's for that matter. My DVD
burning software DOES recognise the drive and successfully burns files to a
disc so the drive is working. I have tried uninstalling the drivers and
re-booting and the UpperFilters registry edit, but all to no avail. Any help
from anyone would be appreciated.

My Drive is a Mitsumi DW 7802TE

Try uninstalling the drivers, shut down your PC, unplug the power cable and
the ribbon cable, boot into Windows. See if it's still listed in Device
Manager. If it is, delete it. Shut down, hook everything back, boot into
Windows. Is it working now?

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the suggestion. I have previously gone as far as unpugging the
ribbon cable, but didn't re-echeck the device manager. Will try that
tomorrow.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the suggestion, however, the link is to a solution for an issue
that really isn't the issue I have.

This has now been resolved....

The drive continued not to be recognised by explorer, so I attached another
DVD drive, which was correctly recognised. Re-connected my original drive
and hey presto, all now good. Still don't know why Explore stopped
recognising in the first place....

It seemed that your "original" DVD RW drive's upper/lower "Windows"
filters was "clobbered." You could have searched for the upper/lower
filter reg patch also.

When you plugged in the newer drive, this some triggered the Plug and
Play (PnP) system to rebuild the upper/lower filters. Then, changing
the drive back, a second PnP trigger occured
