Default MapPoint.exe has excessive cpu usage

On my office computer I'm using MapPoint North America 2009. I also use an
application called SmartMap, a dispatch app, which uses the 2009 map data
base for its program. On Task Manager the MapPoint.exe process cycles every
15 seconds to a high cpu usage of 75-80% for about 3 seconds then drops back
to 00. then it repeats apprx every 15 secs. During this high usage time the
SmartMAPMP.exe process goes from 00 usage to 06 usage then back to 00. Any
solutions as to why this is happening, i am not using the programs they are
just open.

Sounds like the SmartMap software is continually requesting updates from
MapPoint.

You may find (I don't know) that you can alter the refresh interval in the
settings of SmartMap.

I would suggest going to the software web sites and see if there are any
patches for each program. Is this a relatively new problem (if it really is
a problem and not just normal behavior), or has it been going on for a
while? You may have to contact their tech support to see if there's any
reason they don't play nice together.

The first thing I would suggest is to check if the issue causes any
sluggishness in the system performance, if the system behaves normal then you
need not worry too much. As suggested check if you have the option to change
the refresh interval.
