Default New startup error

server.exe this application has failed to start because nss3.dll was
not found re-installing the application may fix the problem

I did a system restore and this error no longer comes up. I tried to
start Firefox and it gave some kind of error I didn't record. I was
just planning on removing and then reinstalling FF.

When I select remove FF from the control panel, it looked like it
opened some kind of box behind the control panel and the box
immediately went away. FF is still on the application list. I tried
to reboot and uninstall FF again, but the same thing happens. The
first time I press remove, it looks like a box opens then closes
behind the control panel but nothing else happens.

Suggestions please.

Use this: http://www.revouninstallerpro.com/
They used to have a free version but things may have changed. You can
at least use it for 30 day trial. HTH.

Getting rid of programs that fail to uninstall normally, I have had good
luck with Revo Uninstaller (the free one) to remove them.

Move the control panel as far to one side as you can (if you learn a key
sequence, you may be able to move it almost entirely out of view), then
repeat the action, and be ready with the PrtSc key. Not that this'll
solve the removal problem, but at least you might be able to see what
the flash box says!

Network Security Service = NSS3.dll

On my machine, I see that file as present in
Firefox, Thunderbird, Seamonkey, Libreoffice.
All are running different versions of the file.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_Security_Services

So something has attempted to damage your SSL/TLS protocol ?

Malware ?

*******

The suggestion here is pretty laughable.

http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/...nstall-firefox

If this was my problem, I would:

1) Note the current release. I think the
standard release is some version of 26.
If I go to the regular Firefox download
page, I'm offered a "version 26 stub".
I'm not that crazy about stub installers.
They may not "clean" things.

2) To avoid the stub installer, go here.

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.o...efox/releases/

If I go here, I can see a "full installer" of 24MB.
Try installing this over top of the current release.
The Mozilla installers seem to have a step after the
install phase, where they delete old files. Perhaps
that will remove the old stuff for you. Just a guess.

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.o...2/win32/en-US/

Before you do that, set a restore point or do a backup of C:,
just in case. That's my standard procedure when treading
in unknown territory.

I use F Secure and I just did a scan and it reported nothing. I will
try to install FF over the existing one.

Thanks

I went here to get 26:
Index of /pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/26.0/win32/en-US
It is only 23MB. I would like to confirm this is the file you are
talking about.

I am not saying this is true in this case, but my experience with most
window flashes are generally nothing really important. As they generally
are scripts, batch, etc. files executing and exiting.

In one of my virtual machines here, the last version number
I saw, might have been 26.2 or so. If you find the download
complains about "removing a more recent version", I provided
a link to 27.0b2 in the hopes it could clear your problem.
You're free to try any version you want, and see what happens.
Just make sure you have a backup, if the results are not
what you wanted or expected.

I see that now. I didn't notice the link while I was trying to digest

Doing a system restore and installing FF over FF seems to have fixed
it.
Thanks everyone
