Update from Win 8 to Win 8.1

Tried to update Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 but update isn't available.
Clicked update link then system goes to store and nothing happens.
What's the problem?

My suggestion is that you go to the Control Panel and install updates
from within Windows Update first (if there are any). Once those are
done, you can try the store again.

8.1 should be in the Updates anyway, it's stupid that it isn't.

Well, in the future...don't be surprised if all updates for Msft
software products in the consumer environment get deployed via the Store
(e.g. all Windows and Office program, patches, reliability, security,
etc) and requiring the use of a MSFT account. Stupid or not but from
MSFT's end it makes business sense to control the deployment for
telemetry purposes to users with MSFT accounts...especially when one
considers that all products are licensed for use, not licensed for
ownership - in fact by use, we all agree to permit them to decide how to
update their products.

It didn't show up the first time I looked (after all updates were done)
and I saw a link something about "what now". It took me to a page
that explained you needed all updates and patches, and one specific KB
item. I downloaded it and it would not install, saying it was already
there, sure enough it was. But now I went back to the store and bingo,
8.1 was there.

Coincidence? Stupid me? Stupid Store? Who knows. Maybe I just
had to shake the trees a bit. :-)
