Download speed

I was hoping that a second computer with it's WiFi card could double my upload/download speed.

Didn't happen, one computer had 400 Mbs download speed while the other had around 40 Mbs.

When I stopped the fast downloading computer, the other download speed went up to around 380 Mbs.

Is the wireless signal "weakened" by the other ?

So you are saying that your machine has both - Wi-Fi and Ethernet? If
this is so, then I always thought that the machine can only use one
connection at a time. It can't use both connections simultaneously.

However, if you are saying that you have a laptop with WI-FI and desktop
with Ethernet then if using both at the same time, the bandwidth comes
into play. The laptop and desktop will share the broadband connection
and so the speed of both would reduce proportionately.

This is always what I believed but I am sure some engineers will have
something else to say.

I assume that you have 2 PCs. each connected via WiFi to the same WAP of
the same router, which means both PCs are sharing the bandwidth of that
WiFi-router link. So it seems that the bottleneck is that shared link,
whether one PC uses it all, or N PCs split it N ways. Normal condition.

Cable would be around 380 Mbs too.

The limiting factor may well be the speed of yout internet access modem. That
wouldn't explain why one computer is faster than the other. Does which is faster
depend on which starts first?
