Default Does this battery rater make sense?

I probably need a new battery for my laptop.

1) Based on quality per dollar, are there any brands of battery, or
vendors, you folks either prefer or dislike?

2) One "rater" says about a battery on Amazon, " It has a great
battery life too up to 6 hours and 10+ days standby.
Pros:... Great with Ubuntu OS and Windows 7 or 8.1
Cons: - If you have Windows XP stock OS, the battery life will be
using only 2 hours."

I can imagine that win7 is somewhat more efficient than XP, but using
1/3rd the current? Doesn't this sound like the guy is blowing smoke,
or pretending to know more than he knows? 3 times?

He also says: "Con: - Hard drive can decrease your battery life with
its max RPM reading" What is a max RPM reading, and did win7 laptop
drives spin slower than with XP, or slow or stop more appropriately?
(If he's comparing an HDD with a SSD, that has nothing to do with a
particular battery.)

Thanks

I would examine the 'guts' of the battery/s inside the battery
compartment so that I could shop for generics instead of the brand
product - or - alternatively, shop for generic compartment + battery/s.

(old article)
http://www.pcworld.com/article/15351...batteries.html Cheap
Laptop Batteries: Good Deal or Risky?

The old article gives examples of generic battery replacement sources
which were bought and tested with good results for the reporter.
Generic batteries are sometimes BETTER than the brand name products.

IMO, it's garbage.
For the laptops and camera I only get genuine OEM batteries.
For the handheld vac, drill, etc., I get cheap chinese junk cells and solder
them in my self.

It depends on what is the make and model of the una-named notebook in
question.

There are cheap crap and there are well made third party battery
replacements but the make and model of the notebook will determine what
is available.

Why did you leave that out ?

Because I was only asking if Windows XP used more power, even 3 times
as much power the poster claimed, as 7 or 8.1, all other things being
equal, including the model of notebook and the battery. I''m sorry I
didn't ask it that way. Clearly I wasn't clear.

I bought a battery that was advertised as having more Mah that a standard battery.

The battery stuck out farther from my laptop.

So I thought, good it has more capacity.

It was not the case.

Linux shows the capacity of the battery.

After charging, it showed only about a 70% of the rated capacity.
