Missing Critical Security Updates

I ran windows update,needed 15 critical security
updates ,downloaded them and the update process started.
Before completing I unintentionally closed the update
window and stopped the processing. Thinking that the
files were already downloaded and stored on the disk
somehere I rebooted system and ran update again (did not
scan for updates). The icon in the task bar showed a %
complete but was going exceptionally slow. So I
terminated after about an hour. Later I reran the scan
for updates and this time it showed I needed 9 updates.
Now I am thinking that 6 must have been installed. I
completed this and successfully installed the 9. After
checking the history page I see that the original 15
failed and the repeat 9 was successful. Now I am
wondering what about the remaining 6. Every time I run
the scan it turns up with no critical updates. I need
guidance on downloading the missing updates through the
download option and then installing. I am concerned about
overwriting if the update was included in one of the 9
successful updates.

And finally when I did search downloads KB823980 showed up
as top ten. Not sure if it is critical.

I am running windows xp with SP-1.

Any suggestions on what to do about the "failed"/"missing"
critical updates will surely be appreciated.
