Default modem issue

In the modem properties you can click on the Advanced
tab. In the box that say Extra init strings type MO or M0
(dont type this it is eaither m o or m zero and it will
stop the connection noise.)

I did it to mine and I never hear it.

I cant seem to switch off my modem speaker. The dialog

box shows it is off
but when I log on back comes the connection noise. Any

ideas how to fix
this would be appreciated.
Thanks
