Network problem on XP Home.
Good point. I know he has the Microsoft firewall active
on the Internet adaptor but I am not sure what else the client has loaded. Must check for Norton. Thanks for the suggestion. -----Original Message----- I ran into the same problem. Had to run the network setup about 5 times before it all of a sudden started working. I kept trying other things. Do you have Norton Internet secruity set up? if so make sure you have the ip address for the other computer to access the internet/machine. maybe that is what worked on my setup. brent -----Original Message----- I have a client who has a small network at home. The network was working fine until about 5 weeks ago when it suddenly stopped working. He has one machine (COMPUTER1) which acts as the Host and has 2 LAN adaptors, a SiS900 on board and a Realtek on a PCI card. The Realtek is connected to a cable modem, runs with the Microsoft Firewall and is working OK. ICS is on and appears to be set up OK. Internet access is working. The second computer (COMPUTER2) also has an SiS900 on- board and a Realtek PCI card fitted. One or other of the LAN adaptors is always disabled as only one is needed. Both machines have Windows XP Home and have been reloaded in case there were problems with XP. COMPUTER1 has the external IP address assigned automatically and the 2nd adaptor is set to 192.168.0.1. The Workgroup is the default MSHOME. COMPUTER2 is set to 192.168.0.2. Both have Masks as 255.255.255.0 If I ping COMPUTER2 from COMPUTER1 I get 4 responses 1mS. If I ping COMPUTER1 from COMPUTER2 I get 4 Timeouts. If I look at Workgroup computers on COMPUTER2 I can see both machines but it says Network Path not found if I try to view COMPUTER1. COMPUTER1 does not see COMPUTER2 at all even though it can ping it. Anyone got any ideas??? . . |
