Default problems activating xp

Having just reformatted. When i click to activate on the
xp activation notice it just disppears and nothing
happens... WHY!!?? also cant access windows update page..
Any ideas?????

Are you connected to the Internet when you try this?

Suggestion:
--Check that the Cryptographic Service is started. Startup Type should be
Automatic.

--Start Run
regsvr32.exe regwizc.dll
Click OK.

--Repeat for
regsvr32.exe licdll.dll

--Try activating again.
