Look at your pc's manual. There should be instructions for reinstalling your
system to factory specs from a hidden partition on the hard drive that
contains the install files. You may even have an option to make a install cd
as one of the options. You will want to do a "destructive" install which
will wipe out your brother's "old version of xp" off of your hard drive
before installing your original system.

If you have a HP computer, you have to press the "F10" key repeatedly during
boot up after the first screen appears. Here is a link that should give you
the necessary information you need to reinstall your system or obtain a
replacement recovery cd you can order on line for I think $12:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...#bph07 145_cp

If you have a Dell, the following link may help you. If it doesn't, go to
Dell's website and search through its support pages for help with
reinstalling your model's system. I believe there is also an option to have
Dell send you reinstallation cds and/or dvds for your system.

I hope this helps.

And if it's a Dell, I think it's F11 or Ctrl-F11 at bootup (can't remember
which).

Yeah, but when you get to be my age (as in: remembering Edison and Bell),
you don't remember everything so well. :-) I mean, it's been a LONG
time since I even considered that option - and it is a pretty drastic
action, ya know :-).

If you had read the SECOND post by Bowen (it was made immediately
after the post you replied to and a full hour before your reply),
there was a dell.support.com link to the instructions. It is
CTRLF11

Call the customer care of the respective product to obtain the cd.They
may some times charge you a small fee.
